The
Aisne
has
invested
heavily
in
its
walking/riding
potential |
For
over
twenty
years
the
Aisne
department
has
been
developing
its
tourism
strategy
for
walking/riding,
taking
full
advantage
of
its
beautiful
landscapes,
rich
cultural
and
historical
heritage
and
large
network
of
paths
and
tracks.
The
significant
stages
of
this
development
were
: |
| - |
Creation
of
the
PDIPR
in
1994, |
| -
|
signing
of
the
departmental
charter
for
promoting
walking/riding
in
1996, |
| - |
publication
and
distribution
of
a
departmental
collection
of
Topo-guides
starting
in
1997, |
| - |
steady
increase
in
the
marketing
of
walking/riding
related
tourism, |
| - |
winning
the
inter-departmental
challenge
trophy
for
outdoor
leisure
activities,
rural
department
class,

2001

More
than
2,400
km
of
officially
recognised
paths
criss-cross
the
Aisne
department.
Within
this
network
there
are
over
200
routes,
representing
more
than
1,000
km
of
properly
prepared
paths
and
tracks.
The
Topo-guides
are
useful
aids
for
exploring
routes,
finding
out
about
places
through
which
they
pass
and
forward
planning
of
a
walk/ride.
They
are
all
produced
by
the
specialist
publisher
Chamina,
specially
chosen
for
the
high
quality
of
their
work. |
At
the
same
time,
the
Aisne
has
carried
out
a
number
of
operations
:
supply
of
information
boards
for
the
routes,
giving
a
consistent
set
of
signs
and
markers
throughout
the
department;
provision
of
a
range
of
facilities
(tables,
benches,
safety
equipment,
etc.
);
creation
of
an
effective
distribution
network
for
the
Topo-guides.
Marketing
and
promotion
events
are
also
arranged
each
year. |
The
smooth
running
of
the
departmental
walking/riding
agreements
are
due
to
people
working
together
at
a
number
of
levels
: |
| - |
at
the
departmental
level,
with
co-operation
between
the
Aisne
Council,
the
Aisne
tourist
board
(CDT)and
the
Aisne
departmental
walking/riding
committee; |
| -
|
at
the
local
level,
with
co-operation
between
individual
towns/villages,
larger
district
bodies
and
the
people
on
the
ground. |
|
| This
website,
entirely
devoted
to
walking/riding,
has
been
created
in
order
to
: |
| - |
make
more
people
aware
of
the
walking/rides
available; |
| -
|
improve
monitoring
of
the
routes
by
getting
the
users
to
take
an
active
role
(keeping
an
eye
out,
alerting
us
to
problems); |
| - |
promote
the
Aisne
department
as
a
whole
through
this
increasingly
popular
leisure
activity. |
